St. Moritz, Switzerland

Your Swiss journey begins the moment you are welcomed at Zurich Airport by your private driver. Leaving the city behind, the landscape gradually transforms as you travel southeast into the Engadine Valley, a journey of approximately three hours that unfolds through rolling farmland, forested valleys, and eventually dramatic alpine passes.

After a journey of approximately three hours (with scheduled or impromptu stops if you’d prefer), you arrive in St. Moritz, one of Europe’s most refined mountain resorts.

The remainder of the day is intentionally left at leisure, allowing you to acclimatize to the altitude and unwind after travel.

Overnight in St. Moritz.

Day 2: The Bernina Express to Tirano

Bernina Pass, Switzerland

Today, you experience one of the most celebrated railway journeys in the world. Boarding the Bernina Express in St. Moritz, you settle into panoramic carriages designed to frame the landscape as the train begins its dramatic ascent through the Alps.

As the journey unfolds, your route crosses soaring viaducts, threads through mountain tunnels, and climbs toward the Bernina Pass at over 2,200 meters above sea level. Glaciers lie startlingly close to the tracks, and the Morteratsch Glacier glints in the high-altitude sun.

Gradually, the terrain softens as you descend into Italy, arriving in Tirano, where palm trees and pastel façades replace alpine granite. You will have time to enjoy lunch and explore the historic center before retracing the route back into Switzerland.

Overnight in St. Moritz.

Day 3: St. Moritz & Diavolezza

This morning, your private guide joins you to introduce the Engadine region in greater depth.

Beginning in St. Moritz village, you learn about its transformation from a modest alpine settlement into a world-renowned winter destination that twice hosted the Winter Olympics. The guide shares insight into the Engadine’s Romansh heritage and the distinct architectural style that characterizes the valley.

From here, a short transfer brings you to the valley station of Diavolezza. The cable car ascends to nearly 3,000 meters! The panorama is extraordinary: glaciers stretch into the distance, serrated peaks cut sharply against the sky, and the Morteratsch Glacier flows through the valley below like a frozen river.

You return to St. Moritz mid-afternoon, with the remainder of the day at leisure.

Overnight in St. Moritz.

This full-day panoramic route is designed to be savored. The train glides through the Albula Valley, passes through the Rhine Gorge, often called Switzerland’s “Grand Canyon,” and climbs steadily toward the Oberalp Pass at over 2,000 meters.

Along the way, rivers, waterfalls, stone villages, and high meadows appear in succession, forming a constantly evolving alpine tableau. Optional onboard dining enhances the experience, turning travel into an event in itself.

By late afternoon, you arrive in Zermatt beneath the silhouette of the Matterhorn.

The story of the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865 adds depth and drama to the setting.

Later, you board the historic Gornergrat cogwheel railway, ascending steadily above the village. As altitude increases, the Matterhorn emerges in full profile, its pyramidal shape unmistakable against the sky. At the summit station, over 3,000 meters above sea level, the panorama extends across a sea of peaks, 29 of them exceeding 4,000 meters.

On descent, a stop at Rotenboden allows a gentle walk to Riffelsee Lake. When conditions are calm, the Matterhorn reflects perfectly in the still alpine water, creating one of Switzerland’s most iconic scenes.

You return to Zermatt in the afternoon with time to relax before dinner.

The highlight of the afternoon is a guided visit to Château de Chillon, Switzerland’s most famous castle. Rising directly from the edge of Lake Geneva, the fortress reveals medieval halls, vaulted ceilings, underground chambers, and frescoed chapels. Its dramatic lakeside position has inspired poets and painters for centuries.

At a traditional cheese dairy, you are introduced to the centuries-old production of Gruyère AOP. The process is explained from fresh alpine milk to aging cellars, where vast wheels mature on wooden shelves.

The tasting that follows reveals the subtle distinctions between young, reserve, and fully aged varieties, nutty, crystalline, and deeply aromatic.

The afternoon turns sweet with a curated chocolate experience nearby. Switzerland’s mastery of chocolate-making is explored through guided tasting, revealing differences in cocoa origin, roasting techniques, and texture. Rich dark varieties, velvety milk blends, and delicate pralines each showcase the precision for which Swiss confectionery is renowned.

You return to Montreux in the late afternoon, where the evening light reflects gently across Lake Geneva.
