Day 1: Oslo – Private Walking Tour

Your private driver-guide collects you from Oslo Airport and transfers you to the city. Norway’s capital combines modern Scandinavian architecture with historic waterfront districts, green public spaces, and a strong connection to the surrounding fjord landscape.
After check-in, you’ll meet your private guide for a two-hour walking tour introducing you to the center of Oslo and its main landmarks.
Oslo City Center & Waterfront
Your walking tour explores the heart of the Norwegian capital, including the harbourfront around Aker Brygge and the Oslo Opera House area. The city has a relaxed atmosphere compared with many larger European capitals, with wide streets, modern buildings, and easy access to the waterfront throughout the center.
Your guide can explain how Oslo has changed over recent decades, particularly around the redeveloped fjord districts where former industrial areas have been transformed into public spaces, restaurants, galleries, and residential neighborhoods.
Depending on your interests, the tour can include parts of Karl Johans gate, the Parliament area, Oslo Cathedral, and views toward Akershus Fortress overlooking the harbor.
Your first evening is free to settle into the city, enjoy dinner locally, or explore Oslo further at your leisure.

Day 2 – Oscarsborg Fortress & Drøbak
Today takes you south along the Oslofjord for a private excursion combining Norwegian coastal scenery with military history and one of the fjord’s most charming small towns.
Oscarsborg Fortress
Oscarsborg Fortress sits on small islands in the Oslofjord and is reached by a short ferry crossing. The fortress is best known for its role during World War II, when Norwegian forces sank the German cruiser Blücher during the invasion of Norway in 1940.
The area feels more relaxed than you might expect from a military site, with walking paths, old buildings, open views across the fjord, and quiet waterfront areas around the island. As you explore the grounds, your private guide can explain the fortress’s history and how it helped defend Oslo’s approach.
The Town of Drøbak
After visiting the fortress, the tour continues into Drøbak, a small fjord town with narrow streets, traditional wooden houses, and a small marina lined with cafés and local shops.
The town is easy to explore on foot, and the harbor area is a good place to slow down for a while and enjoy the waterfront setting. Compared with Oslo, Drøbak feels much smaller and quieter, with a more local coastal atmosphere.
After time in Drøbak, your private driver-guide will take you back to Oslo for the evening.

Day 3 – Scenic Railways & Fjord Journey to Balestrand

Today is one of the major travel days of the itinerary, combining several of Norway’s most famous transport experiences as you travel from Oslo into the fjord region.
Bergensbana Railway Journey
After a transfer to the station, you’ll board the Bergen Railway from Oslo to Myrdal. The train journey takes you across some of Norway’s most impressive scenery, passing forests, lakes, mountain areas, and small remote stations as the route climbs higher into the countryside.
As the train climbs higher into central Norway, the scenery changes steadily from forests and farmland into exposed mountain terrain with snowfields often visible well into the warmer months.
Flåm Railway
At Myrdal, you’ll transfer onto the Flåm Railway, one of Norway’s most dramatic rail journeys. The line descends steeply through narrow valleys, waterfalls, tunnels, and mountain scenery before reaching the fjord village of Flåm.
Large sections of the route run beside rivers and cliff faces, giving constant views across the surrounding landscape during the descent.
Fjord Cruise to Balestrand
From Flåm, the journey continues by fjord cruise through the Sognefjord region toward Balestrand. The cruise passes steep mountainsides, waterfalls, isolated farms, and small fjord communities spread along the shoreline.
Arriving in Balestrand, you’ll check into the historic Kviknes Hotel, positioned directly beside the water with views across the fjord.

Day 4 – Free Time in Balestrand

Today is intentionally left flexible, allowing time to enjoy the quieter pace of Norway’s fjord region without needing to move between destinations.
Relaxing Beside the Sognefjord
Balestrand sits directly along the Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway. The village is small and peaceful, surrounded by mountains that rise sharply from the water’s edge.
You may choose to spend the day walking along the waterfront, visiting local cafés, or simply enjoying the fjord views from the hotel and surrounding area.
Explore at Your Own Pace
There are also optional walking routes nearby, including trails leading into the hills above the village for wider views across the fjord landscape. The area has long attracted artists and travelers because of the combination of mountain scenery, changing light, and quiet atmosphere.
With no major transfers or fixed touring today, there is time to properly slow down and enjoy one of Norway’s classic fjord destinations.

Day 5 – Fjord Cruise from Balestrand to Bergen

Today continues west through the fjords as you travel by express boat toward Bergen. Your luggage porter service allows you to travel more comfortably throughout the day while enjoying the scenery along the route.
Sognefjord & Coastal Landscapes
The journey takes around four hours and is one of the best ways to experience this part of Norway, with long stretches of water, small fjord communities, and mountain scenery for most of the route.
As the boat moves through the fjords, the scenery changes constantly. Some sections feel narrow and enclosed with steep mountains rising directly from the water, while other areas open up into wider stretches of fjord closer to the coast. Along the way, you’ll pass waterfalls, tiny villages, fishing communities, and isolated houses sitting beside the shoreline before eventually arriving in Bergen in the afternoon.
This journey provides a very different perspective compared with traveling in Norway by road or rail, with long uninterrupted views across the water for much of the route.
Arrival in Bergen
On arrival in Bergen, you’ll transfer to your accommodation near the historic Bryggen district. Bergen’s setting between mountains and sea gives the city a very different atmosphere from Oslo, with colorful harbor buildings, narrow streets, and strong maritime history throughout the center.
The remainder of the evening is free to explore independently.

Day 6 – Bergen Sightseeing

Today includes a private guided sightseeing tour introducing the main highlights of Bergen and its historic harbor districts.
Bryggen Wharf
Bryggen is Bergen’s best-known landmark and one of the city’s most historic areas. The colorful wooden buildings along the harbor date back to Bergen’s Hanseatic trading period and now contain workshops, cafés, galleries, and museums.
Walking through the narrow alleyways behind the waterfront gives a sense of how the trading district originally functioned centuries ago.
Bergen City Highlights
Your private guide will show you around the historic center of Bergen, including the old harbor area, Bryggen, the Fish Market, and parts of the city that many visitors miss when exploring on their own. As you walk through the city, you’ll hear more about Bergen’s history as a major trading port and how life in the city has always been closely connected to the sea and surrounding fjords.
The rest of the afternoon is free to explore at your own pace. You may want to spend more time around the harbor, stop at one of the seafood restaurants, browse local shops, or take the Fløibanen funicular for views over the city and surrounding mountains.

Day 7 – Departure Day
After breakfast, your transfer will collect you from the hotel and bring you to Bergen Airport for departure.
Depending on your flight time, there may be time for a final walk through the harbor area or a relaxed morning coffee before leaving the city.
