Day 1 – Scenic Train Journey from Oslo to Bergen

Panoramic view of Bergen city with funicular railway ascending Mount Fløyen, showcasing the vibrant architecture and the surrounding Norwegian fjords.
Bergen, Norway

Your Norway journey begins with one of the country’s most famous rail routes as you travel from Oslo to Bergen on the Bergen Railway. The train crosses mountain landscapes, lakes, forests, and remote highland areas while gradually leaving eastern Norway behind and heading toward the west coast.

The scenery changes steadily throughout the journey. Early sections pass farmland and forests before the train climbs into more open mountain terrain with snow patches, rocky plateaus, and small stations surrounded by wide open countryside.

Arriving in Bergen later in the day, you’ll have time to settle into the city and explore the harbor area independently before the next day’s activities.

Day 2 – Private Fjord Hiking Experience from Bergen

Today you’ll leave Bergen behind and head into the surrounding fjord and mountain landscapes with your private guide for a day of hiking. The route takes you onto quieter trails outside the city, with views across the fjords, lakes, forests, and mountains that make this part of western Norway so well known.

Fjord & Mountain Trails

The landscapes around Bergen change quickly once you leave the city behind. Hiking routes in this area pass rocky hillsides, lakes, forests, and open viewpoints looking across the fjords and nearby islands.

Your private guide will pace the hike around your comfort level while sharing more about daily life in western Norway and the areas surrounding Bergen.

Time Back in Bergen

After returning to Bergen, the rest of the afternoon and evening are free. You may want to spend more time around Bryggen, enjoy dinner along the waterfront, or simply relax before continuing deeper into the fjords tomorrow.

Day 3 – Fjord Cruise from Bergen to Balestrand

Scenic view of Balestrand Norway with colorful houses, lush green hills, and fjord waters on a sunny day, popular tourist destination for Norwegian fjord tours
Balestrand, Norway

This morning, you’ll leave Bergen by fjord boat and continue north through western Norway toward Balestrand. Traveling by boat is one of the best ways to experience this part of the country, with long stretches of water and mountain scenery throughout the journey.

Fjord Landscapes Along the Route

As the cruise moves through the fjords, you’ll pass small waterfront communities, steep mountainsides, waterfalls, and isolated farms sitting beside the shoreline. Some sections of the route feel wide and open, while others narrow with cliffs rising directly from the water.

The journey takes around four hours before arriving in Balestrand, a quiet fjord village on the edge of the Sognefjord.

Arrival in Balestrand

After checking in, the rest of the day is free to enjoy the village at your own pace. Balestrand is small and easy to walk around, with fjord views visible throughout the area.

Day 4 – Fjord & Glacier Discovery from Balestrand

Summer view of Sognefjorden fjord with a cruising ship, surrounded by green covered mountains under a cloudy blue sky, Aurlandsvangen, Norway.
Sognefjorden, Norway.

Today’s excursion explores more of the landscapes surrounding the Sognefjord, combining fjord scenery with glacier views and smaller roads through western Norway.

Fjord & Glacier Landscapes

During the tour, you’ll travel through mountain valleys and along fjord roads while seeing more remote parts of the region that are difficult to reach independently. The scenery shifts between narrow fjord sections, waterfalls, rivers, and glacier viewpoints throughout the route.

The contrast between the deep blue fjords and the ice-covered mountain areas gives a good sense of how varied western Norway’s landscapes can be within relatively short distances.

Return to Balestrand

After the tour, you’ll return to Balestrand for another evening beside the fjord. There may be time for a walk along the waterfront or dinner overlooking the water before the next stage of the journey.

Day 5 – Transfer from Balestrand to Sogndal

Scenic view of Sognefjord with the picturesque village of Bakka near Gudvangen in Norway, showcasing traditional houses and lush green landscapes by the water.
Sognefjord, Norway

Today you’ll leave Balestrand and continue east along the Sognefjord region toward Sogndal by private transfer.

Scenic Journey Through the Fjords

The drive follows the fjord for much of the route, passing small villages, farms, waterfalls, and quiet stretches of road between the mountains and water.

Compared with Bergen and some of the busier fjord areas, this part of Norway feels much more local and laid back. Along the way, you’ll see smaller communities spread along the shoreline with mountains rising steeply behind them.

Arrival in Sogndal

After arriving in Sogndal, the rest of the day is free to relax, walk along the waterfront, or enjoy the surrounding scenery before tomorrow’s glacier experience.

Overnight at Best Western Laegreid Hotell
Junior Suite including Breakfast

Day 6 – Nigardsbreen Glacier Hiking Experience

Today includes one of the most active experiences of the itinerary as you head out to Nigardsbreen Glacier for a guided glacier hike.

A private transfer will bring you from Sogndal to the glacier area, with the drive passing lakes, rivers, mountain roads, and small valleys along the way as you head further inland toward Nigardsbreen.

Guided Glacier Hike

Nigardsbreen is one of the most accessible glacier arms connected to the larger Jostedalsbreen Glacier. During the guided small group experience, you’ll hike across the glacier itself using specialized equipment provided by the guides.

The ice formations, deep blue crevasses, and constantly changing glacier surface make this a completely different landscape from the fjord regions visited earlier in the trip.

After the excursion, your private transfer will return you to Sogndal.

Day 7 – Scenic Journey from Sogndal to Aurland & Flåm

Serene view of Aurland fjord in Norway featuring a tranquil lake bordered by steep mountains, with a wooden dock leading into calm waters under a clear blue sky.
Aurland Fjord, Norway

Scenic Bus Journey

Today you’ll leave Sogndal and continue toward Aurland by bus before taking a short shuttle onward to Flåm. The journey follows the fjords and passes through small mountain communities, long tunnels, rivers, and stretches of road with steep cliffs on either side.

As you get closer to Aurland, the scenery becomes more dramatic, with narrow sections of fjord surrounded by high mountains and waterfalls running down the hillsides. There are long parts of the drive where there’s very little around besides water, mountains, and scattered farms.

Arrival in Flåm

After arriving in Flåm, the rest of the day is free. The village itself is small and sits right at the end of the fjord, surrounded by steep mountains in every direction. You may want to spend some time around the harbor, stop for dinner by the water, or simply relax before tomorrow’s hike.

The rest of the afternoon is free to explore independently.

Overnight at Fretheim Hotel
Superior Twin including Breakfast

Day 8 – UNESCO Nærøyfjord Hiking Experience

Breathtaking view of Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Norway, showcasing steep mountainsides, lush greenery, and serene waters with boats sailing.
Nærøyfjord, Norway

Today includes a guided hiking experience in the Nærøyfjord region, one of the narrowest and most dramatic fjord areas in Norway.

Hiking Above the Fjord

The hike takes you onto trails above the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord, with views looking down across the water and surrounding mountains for much of the route. Along the way, the landscape changes between wooded sections, rocky paths, waterfalls, and smaller mountain farms that are spread across the hillsides above the fjord.

Your guides will pace the walk around the group while explaining more about the fjord region and daily life in these remote communities.

Return to Flåm

After the hike, you’ll return to Flåm for a relaxed final evening in the fjords before beginning the journey back toward Oslo tomorrow.

Overnight at Fretheim Hotel
Superior Twin including Breakfast

Day 9 – Flåm Railway & Return to Oslo

Scenic view from the Flamsbana train showcasing lush green landscapes and a waterfall in the mountains of Norway
Flåm Railway, Norway

Today combines two of Norway’s most famous rail journeys as you travel from Flåm back to Oslo.

Flåm Railway

The Flåm Railway climbs from the fjord up toward Myrdal through steep mountain terrain, waterfalls, tunnels, and narrow valleys. The route is short but packed with scenery throughout the ascent.

Bergen Railway to Oslo

After arriving in Myrdal, you’ll board the Bergen Railway for the journey back across Norway toward Oslo. The route once again passes mountain plateaus, lakes, forests, and wide open countryside before descending back into eastern Norway.

Arriving in Oslo later in the day, you’ll check into your hotel near the city center.

Overnight at Clarion Hotel The Hub
Superior Twin including Breakfast

Day 10 – Final Day in Oslo

Your final day in Norway is free to enjoy Oslo. Depending on your schedule, you may want to spend time around the waterfront, visit museums, explore local neighborhoods, or enjoy a final meal in the city before leaving Norway. Your guide will adapt the itinerary accordingly, before your private transfer to the airport to conclude your tour.
